The basic concept of Quiet Hour is to offer you an hour during the week where you can come in and sit, read, meditate or write in as much silence as possible, offering you a haven of peace and quiet and a mini-retreat from the outside world.

The QUIET HOUR logo was designed by Tom, the symbol that looks a little bit like the number 1, is actually a musical notation, meaning 'rest', the length of the rest is an eighth of a bar, the reason I chose this is that if we surmise there are 8hrs in a day, then a quiet hour is an eighth of a day, hence the symbol. It also sits nicely before the 'hr' abbreviation.

Peace at Last
Quiet Hour came about due to an increasing assault on our senses from unwanted and unwarranted noise, from blaring TV's, radio stations in garages or shops, and the need for some peace and quiet now and again. I have created a space here at The Gallery, where you can sit, read, write, relax and meditate in total silence, and remove yourself from the subliminal programming so often found in the 'scrap' noise we endure each day.

WHO states that 85 decibels is the highest safe exposure level to noise, up to a maximum of eight hours a day. A car measures 70; a jackhammer 100; a plane taking off 120; the subway 90 to 115 decibels; and a siren 123. In 2018, Dr. Thomas Muenzel, a cardiologist from Mainz University Medical Centre in Germany, told The Guardian newspaper “anything above 60 decibels can increase risk for heart disease” and a litany of other ailments, including loss of hearing.
