NATURAL WINES
“Wine is a symphony of terroir, elemental tapestry woven through tradition, and culture. Let us cherish it as a symbol of the beauty and balance that exists when we intertwine in harmony. Like humans, wine can be medicine or poison, a journey of its own birth, the story of its own destiny."
— Tom
Natural wines are very trendy right now and have been steadily growing in popularity in recent years, however, rather than jumping on the bandwagon, Tom chose to help drive it...to only stock organically farmed wines (as the bare minimum standard), not as it's trendy, but because it is the right thing to do.

As many of the wines as possible are natural, i.e. unfiltered, unfined, and made using naturally occurring yeasts with minimal intervention in the vineyards and/or the winery, including no added sulphur wherever possible. By definition, they are generally also produced using small-scale farming practices. The reason he chooses to only stock natural wines, that is to say, wines made with absolute respect for the earth, specifically the soil system, is that it is one way to reduce the strain on the earth and its resources. Regenerative farming also helps to fix carbon in the soil, generally, this method means a smaller scale production, which in turn, increases the biodiversity of the area and gives a more accurate representation of a wines terroir.
Tom enjoys sourcing new wines for you, like this one from Frontemura vineyard in Italy. Wine is a wonderful canvas with which to paint new friendships and learn new things.

As well as being the first natural wine bar in Ireland, it is also Ireland's first organisation to join 'KISS THE GROUND', a global movement to help awaken people to the possibilities of regeneration as well as a member of Talamh Beo - farmers & citizens fighting for Food, Fuel & Fibre Sovereignty. He supports Survival International, which defends the rights, lives and lands of indigenous people, Amnesty and Sea Shepherd.

The Gallery Westport, more than just a glass of wine...

The water for Mescan beers comes from deep underneath Croagh Patrick via a spring beside the brewery. Malts, hops and yeast for the beer come from Belgium.

All the beers are vegan-friendly.
The Gallery serves Mescan beers - delicious locally brewed frothies that go very well with our food!

Mescan Brewery is named after Mescan the monk who was St. Patrick's friend and personal brewer. It is situated on the slopes of Croagh Patrick.

It is a small scale company, based here in Westport, again demonstrating a commitment to supporting local business.
Tom Ramwell is a descendant of Henry 'Birdie' Bowers, close friend and Antarctic expedition partner of Tom Crean from the ill-fated Terra Nova expedition to the South Pole. Crean even saved the life of Birdie after camping out on thin ice!

TOM CREAN BREWERY KENMARE

The Tom Crean Brewery in Kenmare is where Bill Shepherd and his wife Aileen Crean O’Brien (Tom Crean's Granddaughter) brew small-batch natural ales and lager for those who seek the thrill of the unknown.

Their brews, inspired by tales of endurance on the ice and camaraderie at the edge of the world, capture the essence of Antarctic grit and timeless friendship. Whether sipped beside a roaring fire or packed for your own expedition, drink a toast to bravery, resilience, and the unbreakable bonds forged in the harshest conditions. Here's to Crean and Bowers — and to the explorers in all of us.
